Common Dental Emergencies
Know when to seek immediate dental care for your child
Knocked-Out Tooth
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, time is critical. Rinse it gently (don't scrub), place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk. Call us immediately we may be able to save the tooth if you act quickly.
Action: Call within 30 minutes for best chance of saving the tooth
Severe Toothache
Persistent tooth pain may indicate infection or decay. Rinse with warm water, use dental floss to remove any trapped food, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
Action: Never apply aspirin directly to the tooth or gums call us for an appointment
Chipped or Broken Tooth
Rinse the mouth with warm water and save any broken pieces. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Contact us right away for evaluation and treatment.
Action: Save the broken pieces and bring them to the appointment
Dental Abscess or Swelling
A dental abscess is a serious infection that can spread. Signs include swelling, fever, and a bad taste in the mouth. This requires immediate treatment.
Action: Call us immediately abscesses require prompt professional care
Lost Filling or Crown
If a filling or crown falls out, the tooth is vulnerable to further damage. Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side.
Action:Schedule an appointment as soon as possible to prevent further damage
Bitten Lip or Tongue
Clean the area gently with water and apply a cold compress. If bleeding doesn't stop within 15 minutes or the injury is severe, seek immediate care.
Action: For severe bleeding that won't stop, go to the emergency room
